Do I EVEN NEED A WEBSITE
There is often no immediate need for a business to have a comprehensive website online. Indeed a site may not even be needed in the short term.
Other online marketing & branding options may be more suitable in the early stages of your business.
A website can be created, and viewed online, quite quickly, when a client has an idea of what they wish to create, with regard to written copy, images and colour schemes.
We would always recommend, a basic website such as a business card with a logo, and basic content can be created within a day or two so that your domain is secure, live and searchable by Google and other search engines.
If a client is uncertain about their needs, we would generally suggest a basic one page or minimal pages and then develop your site as your customer’s needs and expectations are clearer.
There are, of course, many advantages to a website and JBE can clarify and assist you with your options before making any decisions.
How Long to Get A Website
A timescale for completion is determined by the size and complexity of your desired website and the availability of the text and photographic content therein.
If our existing workload is minimal or not time critical, a basic web presence can be achieved within a week.
Where a domain name is available for purchase, and a pre-made page template is selected, a multi-page site can be created within 14 to 21 days.
Text content and photos are generally the most laborious and time-consuming element of web design.
Should a client be providing the site content, this element is normally underestimated and likely to extend the time frame before a site goes online.
Starting small and building on your website organically is generally recommended.
This enables you to keep your costs to a minimum and develop your site structure and content as your business and client needs become clearer.
WHAT IS A DOMAIN AND HOSTING
A simple analogy is to think about renting business premises:
Hosting
This is the space that you have rented for your business premises to be located.
Website
This is YOUR office that you own and that can be moved to another location.
Domain
This is your address on the internet. Customers can find you via your www. yourdomain.com address.
TO CLARIFY
Without hosting; your website cannot be added on the internet.
Without a domain; your website cannot be found on the internet.
Without a website; domain name and hosting are not needed. Although you can continue to renew your own domain name registration for future use.
IMPORTANT
If you cancel your hosting, your site and all google listings etc will also disappear. You can arrange another hosting provider although a backup copy of your site will be required to be provided to your new hosting provider.
If your domain is not renewed, you will lose your address and it can, therefore, be purchased by a 3rd party and that cannot be undone.
A backup of your site must be kept before ending your hosting.
Why Have Client Care & Hosting
A good analogy is car ownership.
Consider Hosting as petrol for your car as you cannot go anywhere without it. It will stay in your garage out of sight and nobody will ever see it, no matter how wonderful it is.
Some hosting is great and very fast and optimised. Some are poor and unreliable that may cause your site to have difficulty being seen when it breaks down and has to go into a garage or drive slowly like the wrong fuel being used,
Maintenance is like a Service Warranty with free repairs & upgrades depending on the package selected.
If something goes wrong we will fix it, again it can be premium and we can fix at any time like the AA or just during office hours just like a garage.
You may want to add some bells and whistles each month but the mechanic at the garage costs by the hour or your warranty can cover these extras also, depending on the level of support requested.
Whatever option is chosen, all sites must be maintained and updated on a regular basis. If you are handy, you may do this yourself albeit, if you make a mistake, your warranty will not cover the repairs.
HOW LONG TO GET LISTED ON GOOGLE
despite any promises or assurances that others may have given you, claiming that your site will be listed in the top 5 within a week or two, that will not happen.
Depending on your product and market, larger national companies are paying huge sums of money for sponsored placements, to be listed at the top of search rankings.
The good news is that the most important factors to enhance your non-sponsored listing can be controlled by JBE media.
Factors include the quality of your website content, technical optimisation, the responsiveness of mobile devices, optimum image compression and, crucially, for viewers to your site – your website will be hosted on WordPress optimised, SSD high-speed local servers using premium quality supporting backend software.
JBE will ensure that your website has a sitemap included, to make categorising and organising your site content easier, for search engines. We also submit your site data to the most popular search engines.
It can take weeks or indeed months to rank highly on Google consistently; that is why we would always recommend a basic site be put online as quickly as possible, to be processed by the various search engines, whilst we continue to develop for your site.
WORDPRESS SOFTWARE / WHAT IS CMS
WordPress, is the most popular content management system (CMS), is a type of software that runs on a web server and is accessed through a web browser rather than being installed on your computer.
Used on 18 million websites including over 30% of the top 10 million sites worldwide. The nearest competitors are Joomla with 2.5 million and Drupal 750,000
The software had a significant upgrade, Gutenburg, in November 2018, resulting in a more modern and intuitive interface which has made the software, even more, user-friendly.
Given the huge user base and community support groups, you can be confident that your WP site will have no shortage of developers, plugins and themes to keep your website up to date and looking great.

WHAT IS A SITEMAP & DO I NEED ONE
An XML sitemap is written or generated in XML markup, the format preferred by search engines. A site’s XML sitemap is then submitted online to improve and assist the site’s crawling rate by the various search engines. The map makes it easier for the search engines to more accurately index your site content for search queries submitted by web users.
An HTML sitemap is more visual and is used primarily to assist your site visitors in identifying the layout and content of your site in a clear and structured layout. It is written or generated in plain HTML and lists both the static pages and the posts that are available on the site.
Much like good website design and hosting, sitemaps are another overlooked element of what is necessary to optimise a website albeit generally unseen by the visitor or site owner.
When Are Payments required
Generally, an initial deposit of 50% of the quote/estimate is required after the terms and extent of the required services are identified and agreed.
A timescale for completion or staged milestones will be agreed between all parties.
30% will be payable on reaching any agreed milestone date or when the project is completed and viewed operating online.
The final 20% will be payable when all and any amendments and modifications are agreed and signed off by the client.
Full payment will be required before the site is published live on your business domain.
All content, design and associated services will remain in the ownership of JBE until full payment is made.
It is generally advised that clients develop their website and online requirements step by step.
Enhance, develop and extend as and when your budget and clients needs are known.
CAN I USE MY EXISTING EMAIL ADDRESS
If you wish to continue using your existing Google / Yahoo or similar email address, that is not a problem as JBE can utilise your domain email to divert to your existing account with no changes to your current routine.
We can also show how you may wish to provide every one of your clients with their own email address without any additional action.
The benefits are many, for both the client and the business owner.
Where are your Servers Located
Your website data will be stored on servers located in the UK.
Your data will be secure and will be GDPR & UK Data Centre ISO 27001 standards Compliant.
All client websites Include an SSL Digital Security Padlock with malware & virus scanning, as standard, to reassure your clients & visitors.
What is Web Hosting
-
Web Hosting is equivalent to land on the internet where you build your business. The business is your website.
Without server space, your website would not be seen as it needs to be accessible 24 hours per day. Your web address points to the address of your website stored on the server space
A Web Hosting service allows you to publish your blog, online store, website or any project on the Internet. Once set up, your website will be available online instantly, for anyone to view.
Is Bandwidth Capped
-
There is no need to worry about downtime or slow servers or exceeding any bandwidth limits.
Our hosting Servers use High-Speed SSD Storage with Unlimited Bandwidth
CAN I MAINTAIN & UPDATE MY OWN SITE
The Content Management Systems used by JBE is very intuitive for users that wish to maintain and update their own website.
Should you wish to make regular updates/changes to your site, self-managing may be a worthwhile endeavour so long as you have the time to keep the site up to date.
We also offer client care packages should you wish to leave the more technical matters to JBE or should you decide at a later date that your time may be better used by generating more business.
What is FREE Support Time
Our Client Care plans include a FREE monthly allowance of support time.
You may use this time for updating your website, changing text content, obtaining business, technical and online consultation support or to learn new skills for your website or business.
If you have any unused time from the preceding month, it shall be added to the following month’s allowance.
Should your free support allocation be insufficient for any particular task or project, you may purchase additional hours at a discounted rate on an “as needed” basis.
IS WEBSITE SECURITY IMPORTANT
Website security has become even more important following recent high profile data breaches and the introduction of the GDPR legislation.
The financial & business reputation costs are huge.
Should your website be inoperable, your customers will be unable to contact you to purchase goods and services.
A recent example is Aberdeen City Council statistics (Source P&J News):
More than 40 million attempts to break into Aberdeen council’s computer systems have been fought off in the past year – but a dozen made it through the net.
A new report to the council’s audit committee reveals there had been a staggering number of “external cyber incident attempts” in the 12 months to June.
The 40,790,746 efforts made to circumvent security equates to more than 111,000 attempts a day to access potentially sensitive information and compromise council systems.
That is vastly in excess of the 18,089,194 attempts made in the previous 12 months.
DO YOU PROVIDE TRAINING / SUPPORT
Most of our clients prefer to focus on their business strengths and skills and leave online support and creative content to JBE.
Our management and maintenance support services also provide for routine updates as required and to ensure your website is regularly backed up and all software is updated as needed.
Should you wish to maintain and manage your own website, however, we are happy to arrange support and assistance to enable you to update your own site.
Support and training package that meets your specific needs can always be arranged.
Let’s chat about how we can assist.
WHAT TO PROVIDE FOR A WEBSITE
After we have discussed whether a website is indeed your most beneficial marketing option, we would need to agree on what you wish to include on your website.
Decisions, such as colours, fonts, and whether you will provide the text content or require a copywriting service need to be clarified.
With regard to photography and graphics, we need to decide whether you require custom photos to be arranged, or perhaps to use your own or JBE can simply supply stock images.
Branding should also be considered to keep your image consistent throughout your site, Facebook and Linked In etc.
A consistent and recognisable brand reassures your customers and clients.
Do You Provide text & PHotos
Our clients are likely to have a greater knowledge of their products and services and competitors strengths and weaknesses.
We would therefore always suggest that clients attempt to compile key content that we may further refine and develop as the website design evolves.
We can also assist with taking photos of staff, premises and products as real-world photos generally make a better connection with customers than stock photos.
Is SITE Content important
Content is the main component of all printed and digital media. Branding, Logo & Design serve only to attract visitors. The content retains the interest of your prospective customers.
Compelling and engaging content should be interesting and original, relevant and with the appropriate tone and viewer empathy to fully convey your message and your brand.
Grow your business organically rather than creating content that is full of keywords for search engines that may result in SEO penalties by Google.
Focus on content with a Customer 1st Approach.
What is Branding
Branding is an often overlooked aspect of business despite being a very crucial aspect of any business. A logo and colour scheme is a very small part of your brand.
Your brand is what differentiates you from your competitors, a tangible reassurance of what clients can expect from using your products and services.
A consistent level of service delivery and the quality of the product for your target market; that extends across every aspect of your business.
Customer loyalty and referrals are the goals of branding. Servicing existing clients and customers is much easier and more cost-effective than new customers.
Why Do I Need Branding
Branding enables your clients and customers to understand your product or service and how you are different from your competition.
This enables clients user experience to be recalled positively at a later date when the client wishes to use make use of your services or suggest your business by referrals to friends and family.
Your USP (Unique Selling Point) is only a small aspect of your brand.
It is a collective of many factors that ultimately leads to; how you and your products are perceived by others.
The more positive a perception and the easier your business can be recalled, the more customers and profits for your business.
What is Social media
Social media enables you to quickly and easily engage with the users of your products and services and ultimately retain and attract new customers.
Each social media platform has its own strengths and weaknesses. The ideal choice depends on your type of business and your level of commitment.
Achieving the best return on your time and any other investment is paramount and we would suggest you focus on only 1 or 2 platforms.
Use caution if managing multiple platforms as this may result in you providing limited quantity, outdated or poor quality contentThis may have a negative impact on your business or brand.
